South Africans urged to donate blood

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The South African National Blood Services says blood stocks are at critically low levels.

Regional marketing manager for SANBS, Sifiso Khoza says the available blood supply is only enough for two and half days.

He says they need five days’ supply to satisfy the demand of all hospitals in the country.

Khoza says one unit of blood can save three lives.

“I am appealing to everyone to please find 30 minutes of their time and visit one of our nearest centres or one of our mobile clinics to donate one unit of blood.”

He says the South African National Blood Service needs 3000 units of blood every single day and unfortunately it hardly ever makes this target.
