South Africans urged to speak out against racism

Reading Time: < 1 minute

An Anti-racism initiative aimed at encouraging people to learn about prejudice, to speak out against it and report it has been launched by the Anti-Racism Network South Africa.

The Ahmed Kathrada and Nelson Mandela Foundations are also part of the week-long programme which falls in line with Human Rights Month.

Director at the Anti-Racism Network South Africa, Neeshan Balton, says it is difficult to spend a few years dealing with something that has a lifespan of over 300 years, however, they are seeing progress with these intense discussions.

“We see greater determination by victims of racism not to merely accept it but to challenge it through courts and police action. We are also seeing corporates who are not tolerant in their space by dismissing management and we also see on a day-to-day basis ordinary South Africans taking to social media and exposing instances of racism.”
