South African women used as drug mauls

6 August 2019, 6:11 PM  |
SABC SABC |  @SABCNews

The transportation of illegal substances across international borders is a criminal offence, that carries serious consequences. In South Africa, a country with a high employment rate, it is women that are the biggest targets as drug mauls.

More than 1000 South Africans are being held at prisoners abroad, almost half of them are women.

This plight is highlighted this Women’s month by 30-year-old Nontando Pendu, who was arrested in Thailand for drug trafficking, after being lured into a huge global drug syndicate.
