SA boxer shares his record quickest bout

Reading Time: < 1 minute

WBO Bantamweight champion Zolani Tete says that it is sad that he had to defend his title outside the country but he fortunately fought with fellow South African citizen Siboniso Gonya.

Tete took just 11 seconds to record the fastest knockout in world championship fight history in Belfast on November 18.

The South African etched his name into the record books when he flattened countryman Gonya with his first punch to retain his World Boxing Organisation bantamweight crown.

Tete was also nominated at the SA sport awards as sports star of 2017.

He says that he didn’t expect the fight to be so quick; he knew that he was going to knock Gonya out but he didn’t expect to knock him out so quickly.

“Every time we prepare for a fight, we make sure that we go with a sharp mind and once we land we knock the guy out.”
