Political analyst, David Moore, says regionally, South Africa and Zimbabwe are entering a new era.

Moore says it took the forced retirement of one leader, the leadership struggles in the African National Congress (ANC) to bring in a new leader and the death of Zimbabwean opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai to indicate that a new generation is emerging.

“I think it’s also interesting… remember Ramaphosa’s trade union background, post liberation party politics in a way, it’s a change within the liberation. In the late 80’s and 90’s Morgan Tsvangirai took the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions away from its mother child relationship with the ruling party, made it autonomous made powerful links with students, social movements, women’s movements to construct that new party in 1999 which was based in the trade union.”
