South Africa records 792 new cases of COVID-19, 49 150 deaths

The Department of Health says as of Monday the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in South Africa is 1 504 588 with 792 new cases identified since the last report.

The department says the cumulative total of tests conducted to date is 8 907 857 with 15 342 new tests recorded since the last report.

The Health Department says regrettably, a further 97 deaths have been reported, Eastern Cape seven, Free State 30, Gauteng 15, Kwa-Zulu Natal eight, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga seven, North West 0, Northern Cape eight and Western Cape 22 which brings the total to 49 150 deaths.

The department conveyed condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients.

The recoveries now stand at 1 413 566, representing a recovery rate of 93.9%.

The number of health care workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol is 23 059 as of 6 pm 22 February 2021.
