South Africa needs prayers before elections: ACDP

Reading Time: < 1 minute

African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) leader, Kenneth Meshoe, says churches are gathering to pray for the coming general elections because they realise the importance. He attended a church service in Cape Town on Friday morning, where different denominations prayed for a smooth and safe election.

Meshoe says his party will be canvassing for votes in the broader Cape Town area this weekend.

“There is nobody who can deny that these elections are the most important since 1994. That is why churches are now beginning to wake up one another so that this country can take the right direction after the elections.”

Speaking at the party manifesto recently, Meshoe said criminals must not have the same rights as victims.

Meshoe says prisoners must do some work and earn their upkeep in jails. He says given the high-levels of crime in South Africa, the parole system must also be abolished.

The deadline for parties to submit their candidate lists and deposit cheques to IEC to contest the elections was on Wednesday at 5pm.

South Africans go to the polls on May 7.
