Many people turned out to witness the traditional Zulu ceremony called the Umembeso between AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and his future Queen Ntokozo Mayisela in Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Umembeso ceremony is where the bride is presented to her husband-to-be and his family.
Zulu maidens dressed in colourful, traditional Zulu outfits and the King’s Regiment of warriors or Amabutho were also part of Saturday’s celebrations.
Senior female members of the royal family joined the future Queen’s maidens in song and dance as the AmaZulu King looked on.
Plans are under way for the King’s coronation following the death of his father King Goodwill Zwelithini last year.
