The SABC’s News Research department Ronesh Dhawraj gives us a break down of the 2012 State of the Nation Address in numbers: 365 000 –> Jobs created in 2011, best since 2008 recession 2500 Applications received since the job fund was operational in June 2011 at a cost of R1 billion R8.4 bln Seven projects with an investment value of 8,4 billion rand were approved in 2011 R1.5 billion Amount approved for 60 companies to spur jobs R300 bln Amount for capital projects over next 7 years for rail and ports 82 mln Planned projects include expansion of Iron Ore Export channel from 60 million tons per annum to 82 million tons 300 mln Amount planned for two new universities in –>Northern Cape and Mpumalanga R83 000 Subsidies of up to R83 000 available for bond-seekers earning between R3500 and R15 000 per month for housing finance from accredited banks 2 Two is the number of years South Africans will face stringent power use restrictions until two new power stations come into operation 220 000 A total of 220 000 solar geysers were installed to date nationwide R248 mln R248 million to be used for Acid Mine Drainage issue over next two years 705 000 Grade R enrollment for 2011 compared to 300 000 in 2003 8 million Eight million learners in no-fee schools 8 million Over eight million learners benefit from the school nutrition programme 14 000 Close to 14 000 learners placed in ‘learning’ jobs in 2011 11 000 11 000 artisans completed trade tests in 2011 R200 mln Used to assist 25 000 students to pay student loans since 2011 5% Crime stats for number of reported serious crimes in 2010/ 2011 went down by 5% 100 2013 will mark the 100th anniversary of the seat of government, the Union Buildings
