Condolences are still pouring in for the late African National Congress (ANC) MP, Mxolisi Sokatsha.

The 57-year-old Sokatsha also served as MEC in four portfolios in the Northern Cape.

He died in a car crash on Friday night on the N12, 20 kilometres outside Belmont. The accident also claimed the life of another person.

ANC Chief Whip in Parliament Pemmy Majodina visited the family.

She described him as a trustworthy person.

“I worked with him when he was in Sport, I was also MEC for Sport. He was one person that you can rely on, a man of his word, a person who will go all out to serve the nation. As the ANC caucus, we are really devastated. This is the 18th member passing on just between 2020 and 2022.”

Meanwhile, in a statement, presiding officers of Parliament have expressed shock at the death of Sokatsha.

“Parliament and the people of this country have been robbed of a devoted public representative with an untiring commitment to the service of the people. In his passing, we have not only lost an astute legislator, but a true leader, patriot, and servant who always went the extra mile to serve his people.”

Family devastated

Family’s spokesperson Eric Jantjies says Sokatsha was their anchor and his passing is a big loss for his wife, children and the entire family.

“We are very devastated as the family. We are very saddened. It is a big loss really. Everyone is shattered by his sudden passing. As a family, we are trying. One will never get used to death. We are trying to cope as a family but I must say that we are not well at all as I am saying he was everything to the family. So, everyone is just shocked and devastated.”
