Proud parents of grade R and one learners have taken to Social Media to post pictures of their children as they enter their first day of schooling.
They are among 13 million learners in class at public schools across the country.
Learners are expressing a range of mixed emotions, with some excited to start school, while others seem overwhelmed with emotions.

However, most parents thus far say they are happy to have witnessed their children start their first day without breaking down and easing into their new schools.

Lindiwe Jama, a 26-year-old mother from Bloemfontein says her son Siya adjusted well and quickly stopped her while blowing kisses at him.
