Slower voter turnout compared to previous local elections by 12:30

The Independent Electoral Commission has announced that by 12:30 today, 3.5 million voters had turned up at voting stations to cast their ballots, which translates into only 13% of the 26.2 million registered voters. During the 2016 LGE, just over 11 million voters or 41.98% of registered voters had voted between 7am and 1pm on election day. During the 2011 LGE,  39% or 5.3 million people had voted between 7am and 1pm.
