The murdered 14-year-old twin brothers have been described as kind children who enjoyed going to church.

Bothlale and Bonolo Makena were stabbed multiple times in their home in Mamelodi West, Pretoria.

Their bodies were discovered by their mother when she returned from work on Friday.

The Ethiopian Catholic Church’s Bishop Mashilo Mangena says the twins were not involved in any criminal activities.

Mangena says, “On my way from checking my parents’ home, I passed them on the road, and they were excited, telling me that they wanted memory verses from me specifically. They didn’t even call me a moruti (pastor) or bishop; they called me uncle because they grew up before me.”

He adds, “I baptised them. Now, I was looking forward to confirming them as full members of the church. These are very soft children; they are not into any criminality, they don’t mix with the other crowd, and the fact that they even go to church for classes without their mother tells you about the character of these children.”
