SABC Business presenter and reporter, Nompumelelo Siziba, says South Africa’s economic growth rate is continuing to slow down.
Siziba reports that after speaking to experts she doubts that more taxes might be placed on consumers when the Mid-Term budget is presented in Parliament this week.
Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is expected to deliver the Medium-Term Budget on Wednesday.
At the beginning of the year it was expected that the economic growth rate would be at around 2.7%, but recently Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan said a not at below 2% rate is now expected.
The Mid-Term Budget is expected to shed light on what revenue the country is currently earning, what kind of expenditure is expected in the next three years and allocations that will be made given the revenue at hand.
