Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after six people, including three children, died when a car crashed into a truck on the N4 close to the Rossouw off-ramp in Pretoria on Tuesday evening.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation has also launched an investigation.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says the truck allegedly made a u-turn on the highway when the car crashed into it.

ER24 and Tshwane Fire Services found the vehicle in the middle of the road with grain spread over the vehicle and road.

Meiring says all six occupants of the car, including three children aged 3, 8 and 12 and an elderly woman, were declared dead on the scene.

In another accident on the N1 North highway between the William Nicol and Rivonia off-ramps on Tuesday, two people died when a chemical truck and two cars collided.

One person died on the scene and the other in hospital

Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said one of the cars caught fire.

“One of the cars, that appears to be a Golf completely burnt out, the driver burnt out on the scene and the passenger of this car died in hospital. The driver of the other car, a silver Polo, was taken to the Sunninghill hospital. And the tanker was empty at the time of the accident.”
