Six cases of murder investigated in Nquthu after a shooting

Police are investigating six cases of murder following a shooting incident in Nquthu in the north of KwaZulu-Natal. It is believed that a family was holding a cleansing ceremony when three, unknown armed men entered the homestead.

The suspects allegedly grabbed a 63-year-old woman who was carrying her four-year-old grandson and asked for a family member.

Police say a 22-year-old managed to escape when the suspects shot and killed the grandmother and her grandson.

It is alledged the other suspects proceeded to another house, opening fire and killing three people. Four others sustained injuries and were taken to hospital, where a 59-year-old woman later died. The suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle.

Charges of murder and attempted murder have been opened for investigation.
