SIU warns against leaking of PPE investigation reports

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has again denied media reports that it made a presentation last month to President Cyril Ramaphosa about its investigation into COVID-19 corruption and maladministration.

It says it is concerned about reports in the media claiming to have detail about leaked investigations.

The SIU says bogus media reports have the potential to mislead the public.

The SIU also says the leaking of any reports before investigations are completed has the potential to compromise such probes.

Allegations of corruption regarding tenders – including that for COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – caused widespread outrage earlier this year.

The President’s spokesperson, Khusela Diko, was forced to go on special leave in July amid claims that her husband was irregularly awarded a R124 million tender at Gauteng Health.

Dr Bandile Masuku lost his job as the provincial Health MEC over the scandal.
