Reading Time: < 1 minute

The situation is calm in Mohlakeng Township on Gauteng’s West Rand on Thursday morning.

The R28 between Randfontein and Westonia has also been opened to traffic. This follows Thursday’s violent service delivery protests.

A local police station had to be evacuated after protesters broke windows and pulled down the fence.

Residents were reportedly protesting over allegations of maladministration and the fraudulent sale of RDP houses in the area.

Five people have been arrested for public violence.

Police spokesperson Appel Ernst says, “The R28 was opened and there was no other incidents on the R28 throughout the night and public order policing are monitoring the situation. Inside Mohlakeng it is the same, we have not had any incidents since last night at about 12 we had the last incident. Inside Mohlakeng it is quite but we are monitoring.”
