Minister Sisulu says the latest events in Gaza will disrupt efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Middle East crisis.

International Relations Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has condemned the actions of the Israeli government that have led to death of at least 50 Palestinians.

On Monday South Africa withdrew its ambassador to Israel following the killing of Palestinian protesters along the the Gaza-Israel border.

Minister Sisulu told journalists in Parliament that the latest events in Gaza will disrupt efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Middle East crisis.

She says: “The South Africa government condemns with the strongest terms possible the latest acts of violent aggression carried out by the Israelian armed forces along the Gaza border which has led to the death of civilians.”

“The victims were taking part in a peaceful protest against the provocative re-inauguration of the US embassy to Jerusalem. The latest has resulted in scores of Palestinians being injured,” says Sisulu.

She has called on the South African Jewish communities to join the world in condemning the actions of the Israeli government.

Sisulu says she plans to meet with various Jewish groupings to explain the serious nature of what is happening in the Middle East.
