Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Gauteng provincial government says it will cost between R50 million and R60 million to repair a sinkhole on the R55 road in Laudium, west of Pretoria.

Premier David Makhura accompanied by Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga, Roads and Transport MEC Ismail Vadi, Tshwane Roads and Transport MMC Sheila Senkubuge visited the area earlier Monday to assess the situation.

Over the weekend, part of the road collapsed.

Makhura further announced that law enforcement will be on site for 24 hours to ensure the safety of members of the public.

It is not clear at this stage as to when the road will be fixed and re-opened to traffic.
