Gwala died in Johannesburg on Friday at the age of 44 after losing the battle to cancer.

Veteran broadcaster Xolani Gwala’s friend, Muzi Sikhakhane, says he remembers him for his strong faith. Sikhakhane spent time with Gwala in Israel where he was receiving medical care for colon cancer.

Gwala died in Johannesburg on Friday at the age of 44 after losing the battle to cancer. Sikhakhane says he was amazed by the level of faith Gwala had.

“When I visited him in Israel we walked along the beach in Tel Aviv and for the first time he opened up to me about death and I was struck by the fact that this young person with so much faith in his God and so much faith in life could speak about something that confronted him with such grace and dignity. He insisted that we go to the grave, Xolani and I are both Catholic and when we were there he insisted that we get inside that grave and pray the rosary,” says Sikhakhane.
