Sibongile Khumalo – The Music

Legendary jazz and opera musician Sibongile Khumalo’s catalogue of music ranged from love songs to struggle songs which inspired and soothed people across different generations around the world.

Khumalo passed away on Thursday from stoke related complications.

Khumalo sang in a range of languages including Sotho, Setswana, isiZulu and English for over three decades.

She has worked in different industries before focusing on her music career. Khumalo worked as a music teacher, an administrator as well as a researcher before focusing more on her music career.

The icon has been honoured for her contribution to the arts.

In 2008, Khumalo was awarded the prestigious Order of Ikhamanga in Silver.

The award is bestowed on South Africans who have “excelled in the fields of arts, culture, literature, music, journalism or sport”.
