Mining company Sibanye-Stillwater says it believes it has made significant progress to address issues of health and safety in all its operations.
The company has held a Safety Summit in Johannesburg.
It has been widely criticised for the numerous mine deaths this year at its facilities.
Sibanye-Stillwater Head of Investor Relations James Wellsted says, “We believe we’ve reached a significant milestone as an industry today at the safety summit, which was well attended by all the unions and Department of Mineral Resources (DMR). All parties committed themselves to a joint pledge on safety, and we’ve developed plans of action to address health and safety issues particularly in our company.”
