The businessman accused of killing Durban North girl Siam Lee is due to apply for bail in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

He was arrested in January at his home following an intensive investigation that linked him to the killing of Lee; he now faces 16 charges, including the rape of another woman.

The businessman has been held at the Durban North police station since his arrest in January.

Lee’s disappearance gained widespread public attention after she was allegedly kidnapped from her place of work, which is believed to be a brothel.

Her burnt body was discovered later in a sugar cane field at New Hanover in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.

The accused had made two appeals to be moved while awaiting trial… at first he claimed that police abused him in the holding cells in Durban North, and at his last appearance he requested a transfer to a prison in Pietermaritzburg and not to Westville Correctional Services.

The 29 year old man cannot be named because he now faces a rape charge as well.
