The last broadcast for the year looks at all the highlights of the programmes aired in 2012.
In our story Double Standardsby producer Adel van Niekerk we take you back into Joburg Prison’s B-Section where we brought you exclusive footage of a dying inmate who is fighting for his life. We tell of his uphill battle to get medical parole and highlight the seeming disparities in the medical parole system. We also take you to the shores of Mozambique where South African pensioners lost all their savings in a property scam. The scandal was linked to property mogul Pam Golding and in the story called Scammed in Paradiseby producer Frank Ferro, we also confronted the man at the center of the scandal, Braam Bruwer.
In producer Hazel Friedman’s story Cape of Warswe return to the Cape Flats where violent gangs still continue with their reign of terror and innocent people, mostly children die in the cross-fire. We cast light on controversial calls for the army to be deployed in the area to address the burning issue and look at fragile peace truces by those involved. We also once again look at the complicated web of complicity in the ongoing illegal taxi conversion saga in producer Peter Moyo’s Short Changedand show how that impacted on taxi owners who are still waiting for clarity on the matter.
In this last episode of the year we highlight once again the harrowing stories of rape survivors in Waiting for Justiceby producer Amos Phago. In this episode elderly women in the Eastern Cape were violated by men from the community young enough to be their grandsons. And in Ruling by Fearwe bring you the story by producer Richelle Seton-Rogers of an alleged victim of police torture who was brave enough to speak out.
