Shock over ANC KZN branch treasurer murder

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The family of the late African National Congress (ANC) Branch Treasurer in the oShabeni area on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast, Sfiso Cele, is struggling to come to terms with his murder.

Intruders stormed their home on Monday morning as Cele and his family were getting ready for the day.

Family spokesperson Thulasizwe Msomi says Cele’s wife and children were forced into a bathroom as the men ransacked the house. Cele was taken to the bedroom and shot dead.

Msomi says Cele was a pillar of strength in the community. “It’s a very sad loss when I heard the news I said what a waste if those people only know who they were killing, maybe they would not have killed this person. A very resourceful person in the community at large, not alone in the family. He will be dearly missed by the whole community.”

The killing has raised concerns as the party has started holding elective regional conferences in KwaZulu-Natal in anticipation of the provincial elective conference.

ANC Regional Secretary on the Lower South Coast Mzwandile Mkhwanazi has urged the public not to fuel divisions but to wait for the investigation to be concluded.

“As the ANC in the lower south coast we are expressing our shock at this barbaric act of killing of one of our own comrades Sfiso Cele from Oshabeni. Comrade Cele is the comrade who has served the ANC diligently; we regret this, we want to convey our messages of condolences to the family. We would like to allow the law to take its course; we hope those who have done this will be apprehended.”
