Several families living in Verwoerd Park in Alberton, east of Johannesburg, have been evacuated from their homes following an oil pipeline explosion.
Ekurhuleni Emergency Services says no injuries have been reported for now. It is not known at this stage what led to the explosion of the pipeline belonging to Transnet.
“It is a Transnet pipeline that has exploded. There are people that have been evacuated. We still checking number of people affected by houses nearby. About five houses have been evacuated,” says Eric Maloka, Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Spokesperson.
