Seven men in court for Glebelands Hostel violence

Seven men allegedly linked to ongoing violence at the notorious Glebelands Hostel at Umlazi, south of Durban are due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

Among the accused is a police officer stationed at the Durban Central police station.

They are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, racketeering and the illegal possesion of firearms.

The seven men were arrested by a police task team set up to investigate the violence that has claimed 32 lives between 2014 and 2016.

During that period 47 cases of attempted murder were opened.

It is expected that a date would be set for the case to be transferred to the High Court.
