Seven men charged with the murder of Elvis Nyathi, a Zimbabwean national who was beaten and burnt to death in Diepsloot north of Johannesburg over a week ago, are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The group is facing charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, assault grievous bodily harm, robbery with aggravating circumstances and extortion.

They are alleged to have robbed some of the victims of their belongings and demanded money in exchange for the release from captivity.

Nyathi’s’ family is devastated. His younger brother Miziayifani Nyathi says the family is not coping well with the tragedy.

“Eish, the family is just disturbed with this whole thing. It is so painful for such a thing to happen. Yet the guy did not do anything. We are really traumatised,” he said.
