Seven awaiting trial prisoners have escaped from police holding cells in Modimolle, Limpopo.
Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says the suspects escaped on Saturday night.
The escapees were identified as Pulano Ndebele, Themba Ncube, Sello Rengane, Mpho Lesese, Kenneth Shuma and Kazen Dluwayo.
They had been arrested for various offences including alleged illegal possession of explosives, rape, armed robberies and house robberies.
Ngoepe says the circumstances that led to the escape are being investigated.
