Reading Time: < 1 minute

28 January – A senior Cape Town journalist was suspended for allegedly applying to be on the Democratic Alliance’s list of parliamentary candidates for the general election, Independent Newspapers said on Friday.

According to a statement it had come to Independent’s attention that he recently sought elected political office with the DA.

He did this without informing his editor, and while continuing to write news as well as opinion and analysis on the said political party without declaring his political intentions to our readers.

In studio we spoke to his attorney, Michael Bagraim as well as a journalism ethics expert, Marenet Jordaan from the University of Pretoria.
