World-renowned athlete, Caster Semenya, says she is pushing forward with efforts to distribute menstrual cups to girls in rural areas.
Semenya was speaking at the TopWomen Conference – an annual two-day gathering at Emperor’s Palace, east of Johannesburg.
The United Nations supports the conference, whose aim is to build a network of gender empowered female entrepreneurs and women in the digital space.
Semenya says the menstrual cup is more sustainable than sanitary towels.
“…And then go distribute it, more into the rural areas where I know if I buy one for one girl, I know it will last them for ten years, which is good. It’s a great product, I don’t have to go back every day, and for most of those girls, it has changed their lives. It has been great, you ask them, do you miss school? They don’t miss school at all.”
