Security guard arrested for shooting customer not wearing a face mask

A security guard has been arrested in Kimberley for allegedly shooting a customer who wanted to enter a shop without wearing a face mask.

The incident happened at a shop at a filling station in Kuruman.

Police Spokesperson, Mohau Ramatseba says the suspect has been charged with attempted murder. He is expected to appear at the Kuruman Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

South Africa entered into Level 4 on May 1 of the coronavirus lockdown and people are required to wear masks when they go out in public, among other requirements.

Level 4 includes an easing of regulations around the movement of people and a slight opening-up of economic activity.
