The Justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS) has urged South Africans to take COVID-19 vaccines before participating in crowd engagements during this festive season.

This year’s festive season comes at a time when the country is experiencing the fourth wave of the pandemic compounded by the Omicron variant.

Police Minister Bheki Cele was among the cluster ministers who briefed the media in Pretoria.

“COVID-19 infections are rising daily, following the discovery of the Omicron variant which is considered more contagious than previous variants. Keep yourselves and your families safe by ensuring that all your family members over the age of 12 get the COVID-19 jab which is available for free at any of the vaccination sites countrywide. Vaccines remain our best defense against COVID-19 by protecting us from serious illness, hospitalisation and even death.”
