Second Beach at Port St Johns on the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape has resumed its place as a key location to celebrate the new year after the lifting of the COVID-19 curfew. A year ago the beaches were off-limits.

Beaches on the Wild Coast are a key tourism attraction and source of revenue.

Port St Johns Mayor Nomvuzo Mlombile-Cingo says, “We can boast that we have a joint operation center that is made up of all government departments, SAPS is there, Social Development and traffic, as well as the municipality, is there. For example, the team that came, about nine arrests were made for drunken driving so we are not joking about law enforcement, we make people feel free here. They are most welcome but we enforce the law so that people understand that it is their safety that comes first.”
