Second annual Weather Smart Science Symposium begins

The second annual Weather Smart Science Symposium is set to commence in Pretoria on Monday. The aim of the conference is to present the latest findings on climate, air quality, aviation and marine research.

Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the SA Weather Service, Mnikeli Ndabambi, says the key role of the weather service is about safety of life and property.

“As a national meteorological service, we verify our information. We’ve got observation infrastructure, radar network and so on. With that information, you are able to maintain that infrastructure so that the data that is flowing through it is accurate,” says Ndabambi.

Ndabambi says weather predictions are a continuous process which require research.
