One of the latest productions that will be taking place at the Artscape in Cape Town is Tsotsi the musical, based on the Grammy Award winning movie Tsotsi.
The Musical tackles social issues that are as relevant today and follows a South African hoodlum named Tsotsi who lives by a code of violence, attacking those who fail to give them what they want.
While the story-line will still be familiar to audiences, the musical introduces new characters and exciting new story-lines.
Actress, who plays Tsotsi’s mother, Ayanda Nhlangothi says the musical and the movie are extremely different. The journey is still about David “Tsotsi” but there are a lot of characters that are brought into life for the stage musical.
“We actually get the opportunity to understand the journey of David in a much deeper sense, other characters and their relationships with David are revealed. It helps one to understand more about his journey and everything that impacted him to become who he was.”
