Municipal buses have begun bringing in scores of mourners ahead of Namibian struggle hero, Andimba Toivo ya Toivo’s memorial service in Windhoek.

Thousands are expected to fill Independence Stadium where the event will take place.

Ya Toivo served 16 years on Robben Island after being convicted of treason in 1968 by the apartheid police.

The programme for the memorial service includes messages from the current President, Hage Geingob as well founding President Sam Nujoma.

Former Namibian Prime Minister Nahas Angula is set to deliver ya Toivo’s eulogy.

Vicki Erenstein ya Toivo’s widow will also share memories of her husband.

After all the speeches are concluded mourners will be given a chance to view the body before it’s transported to Parliament Gardens where it will lie in a state.
