The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) of the National Assembly has criticised Transnet senior management for its failure to comply with vetting requirements expected of all employees in procurement and supply chain management divisions.

Scopa met with Transnet’s executive pertaining to issues such as the entity’s procurement guideline deviation applications and the scope expansion of various projects.

Transnet CEO, Siyabonga Gama admitted that in the three years since cabinet had issued directives for staff in supply chain management to be vetted by the State Security Agency Department, only 10% had gone through the process.

“There are management lapses that have taken place, that we need to make sure that the system of government and the system of management is dealt with, so that never again that, we overlook such processes. But also, I have indicated to this committee that it’s not a negotiable matter when it comes to vetting that Transnet must simply comply with this matter. And that we will do so,” says Gama.
