Science Wrap: 27 February 2015

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In this week’s Science Wrap we take a look at the latest news around Ebola. Tests have shown that traces of the Ebola virus can remain in semen long after a patient has overcome the disease.

Also coming up, a routine inspection of the GWK abattoir and feedlot in De Aar in the Northern Cape revealed the ill-treatment of lambs and sheep through “extreme rough handling and bodily injuries” caused by inept shearing as reported by the NSPCA.

Moving to space, scientists say they have discovered a black hole so big that it challenges the theory about how they grow.

And finally, with load shedding set to continue, more and more South Africans are switching over to solar energy and other alternative sources to keep the lights on.
