In this week’s wrap we take a look at Tuberculosis Day. South Africa joined the world to mark the day on Tuesday. Over 40 000 cases of TB are recorded annually in South African mines, especially in the gold sector.

Did you know that energy drinks can be harmful to your health? Although flavourful, the side and long term effects of consuming large doses on a regular basis can lead to future health problems such as caffeine addiction, cardiovascular diseases and osteoporosis.

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town (UCT) says the launch of a new R50 million Neuroscience Initiative will lead to cutting edge treatment for patients with brain diseases.

And finally..

NASA’s Chief Scientist, Dr Ellen Stofan has urged learners to take subjects such as Maths and Science seriously as they are critical in determining the future of the universe.

Stofan was speaking at the Sci-Fest Africa in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape.
