Science and visual arts collaborate in the fight of COVID-19

Two sectors traditionally wide apart – science and visual arts – have collaborated in an effort to help the world better understand the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organisers of the Sub-Saharan Africa Network for TB/HIV Research Excellence hope that through the collaboration, artists will create works of art that will stimulate further public discussion.

Sub-Saharan Africa facing the first recession in 25 years

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 economic fallout will push Sub-Saharan Africa into its first recession in 25 years.

This is according to the World Bank’s Africa’s Pulse report, giving details of the impact of the pandemic on the region.

It predicts Sub-Saharan Africa’s economy will contract by 3.3 percent this year, threatening to push 40 million people into extreme poverty.
