Sipho Ngwema says there will be closure of the investigation a month after the schools have opened

The results of an investigation launched in 2017 by the Competition Commission about the high prices of school uniforms will be released soon.

The Competition Commission is investigating a number of schools, school uniform manufacturers and suppliers for anti-competitive behaviour.

The commission says this anti-competitive behaviour leads to inflated uniform prices and also marginalises new school suppliers from the industry due to exclusivity.

“We launched this investigation because there were a number of complaints from parents saying they are forced to purchase school uniform at selected suppliers which are high priced,” says Head of Communications at the Competition Commission, Sipho Ngwema

Ngwema says there will be closure and they will make an announcement regarding the investigation a month after schools have opened.
