The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein will on Friday deliver judgment in the prosecution’s appeal to challenge the sentence imposed on convicted murderer and disgraced Olympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorius.

The NPA had approached the court to hand down a harsher sentence.

Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013. The State maintained that his testimony was untruthful.

Law Expert Lebohang Mokhele says the court will consider the period he has already spent in jail.

“In terms of the law the minimum sentence will apply since he was convicted and found guilty of murder by the appellant division. What I believe the court will do is alter the sentence or period of sentence making it rather 15 years and suspend the portion of the sentence.”
