Reading Time: < 1 minute

Shoes and Coups is the latest production to hit the Market Theatre in Johannesburg. The punchy and satirical production is a play on contemporary global politics, the rise of civil activism and a pair of controversial shoes.

It is a production that provides the harsh realities of presidential politics and, is the directorial debut of upcoming and young director Palesa Mazamisa.

Speaking on Morning Live, she says though she has written plays previously – this particular play is dear to her heart as it brings together three things she is passionate about.

The three things are satire, politics and global activism.

Cast member Michelle Mosalakae enjoyed the character she played as she found the role challenging because it is completely different from who she is.

“I enjoy playing characters different from who I am and this play gave me an opportunity to push myself as an actress and immerse myself in a world I was not familiar with,” says Mosalakae.
