SASSA welcomes arrest of service providers linked to Imbizo fraud case

Social Security Agency, SASSA, has welcomed the arrest of ten people in connection with the fraud investigation into irregularities relating to a SASSA nationwide imbizo programme.

The Hawks arrested the service providers from KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Eastern Cape.

They were granted bail of between R2000 and R3500. They were contracted to provide services such as transportation, the hiring of tents and catering during the imbizos in 2014.

The alleged fraud amounts to R12-million. The Head of SASSA’s Fraud Management Unit, Dr Hlengani Bila says

“We have been supporting this project since the inception stages and we will continue doing so –  supporting all law enforcement agencies in all investigations projects in relation to SASSA.”
