Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says they have requested a six-month extension to allow for a smooth transition from CPS to the South African Post Office.

Social grant agency South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) has asked the Constitutional Court for an extension on its contract with Cash Paymester Services (CPS) to pay out grants.

Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi says they have requested a six-month extension to allow for a smooth transition from CPS to the South African Post Office.

The contract with CPS ends at the end of March, but already the Post office CEO has written to the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation complaining about delays.

“The contractor of the current payment contract is coming to an end at the end on 31 March 2018. The South African Social Security Agency is asking for a phase in phase out where in the SA Post Office will come in and the current contractor will come out.”

“However you need to make sure that there is a smooth transitional process. You want to make sure there are no glitches and to make sure our beneficiaries continue to get their social grants,” says Letsatsi.
