SA’s total COVID-19 infections pass the 3.7 million mark

South Africa has recorded 1 682 new COVID-19 cases, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 3 700 484.

This increase represents a 5.8% positivity rate.

Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported.

The NDoH reports 62 deaths and of these, 3 occurred in the past 24-48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 99 829.

23 514 233 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.

The NICD continues to provide laboratory-based surveillance to inform the public health response towards COVID-19 in South Africa.
