Tamaryn Green tweeted her thanks to all those at home who backed her.

Miss South Africa, Tamaryn Green, has thanked South Africans for all their support after claiming the runner-up spot at the Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok in Thailand.

Green tweeted her thanks to all those at home who backed her. Catriona Gray of the Philippines won the title, with Miss Venezuela in third place.

The previous Miss Universe, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa, crowned Gray as her successor.

Miss Spain, Angela Ponce, made history this year by becoming the first transgender participant in the Miss Universe competition.
