SA records 121 new COVID-19 related fatalities

South Africa has recorded an increase of 121 COVID-19 related fatalities, bringing the death toll to 11 677. This while the number of infections has increased by 4 513, taking the cumulative number of infections to 583 653.

KwaZulu-Natal registered the highest number of new fatalities at 34, followed by the Western Cape with 26, Gauteng 21, Limpopo 18, the Free State 17 and the Eastern Cape 5.

Gauteng, which remains the epicentre of the pandemic in the country, stands on the brink of the 3 000 fatalities mark – with 2 888 infections.

The province also recorded an increase of 1 140 new infections, while KwaZulu-Natal recorded an increase of 875, the Free Stated 628, the Western Cape 410, Mpumalanga 361, the Eastern Cape 299, the Northern Cape 292, the North West 277 and Limpopo 231.
